That's the Way to Travel / So sollte man reisen

Die 42. Solothurner Literaturtage fanden aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie online satt.

A polyphonic collection of poems instilled by the subtle, sometimes ironic observations of the American lyricist living in Switzerland. Her motives range from praising Emily Dickinson and thanking Barak Obama to poignant private experiences as she captivates her readers by her immediacy, her political aspirations and her stylistic clarity.

That Was the Fall

when mattress salesmen became sleep consultants,
when we put all the ballots in a locked box
and steamed it closed,
when the Captain and Maria climbed over that mountaintop,
tumbled down into the workcamp,
when the tree outside the window grew rampant, lush, hostile and magnificent,
when one of my students said,
"from the very first class, I knew you were alive,”
and I thought, oh baby, I’m so alive it’s killing me.
